When exploring options for a career at a young age I decided that I wanted to restore wetlands because of my passion of the outdoors, wetland conservation, and restoring God’s creation. After graduating with a civil engineering degree from South Dakota State University I accepted a field engineering position with Oftedal Construction.
In 2010, I was awarded a contract from Ducks Unlimited, partnering with the NRCS and BWSR to work on wetland restorations on RIM/WRP easements in West Central Minnesota. As a result of that, Field to Flyway Engineering, LLC was established. For three years I worked on over fifty easements totaling over 15,000 acres. This work consisted of restoring wetlands 15 acres and smaller. In 2013, I accepted a position as a Regional Engineer for Ducks Unlimited to implement the Living Lakes Initiative program. I completed over 30 projects that included; land acquisition projects requiring the restoration of numerus small temporary wetlands, large 30-acre permanent wetlands, a stream restoration, large water control structures on shallow lake enhancements, including Sanborn Lake and Swan Lake the largest prairie pothole. Both of these positions required me to collect topographic survey data then design, draft, and oversee the construction of the projects. I have found that executing each aspect of the project maximized productivity, efficiency, accuracy and most importantly communication with project partners. One of my projects was featured on Minnesota Bound and many have been included in site visits for fundraising, major donor dedications, and LSOHC project tours. During my time at Ducks Unlimited, Field to Flyway Engineering was side lined to focus on my work with them. In 2021, Field to Flyway Engineering was activated to continue focus on wetland restoration and other conservation practices, while also providing services to those who may not know about the programs available.
I have always thought I had the mind of an engineer with the heart of a waterfowl biologist bringing those attributes to every project to maximize the benefits of every parcel of our limited conservation land.
I graduated from Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2006 with a degree in Business Management. Since then, I’ve worked across a variety of industries, gaining experience in customer service, sales, human resources, accounting, and product development. My last position I held a career specialist for high school students, but closed due to state funding. I’ve worked with companies like Daktronics, Oftedal Construction, Lake and Home Magazine, and our local public school.
I am co-owner of Field to Flyway Engineering and love visiting the projects from start to finish. Typically I do more of the office work doing technical writing, reviewing and drafting of plans or proposals, media and office management, and technical assistance.
Beyond work, I’m passionate about community involvement. I’ve been active in local organizations for years, including over a decade with MomCo (formerly MOPS), supporting and encouraging fellow moms. I also help lead youth programming at our local church, which involves worship on Wednesdays, community service, and summer vocational bible school. For the past three years I have helped with the summer youth theatre camp with costumes, props, set design and building.
